  • Welcome

** Vernon Barford Random Selection Update **

    • We are pleased to share that Vernon Barford will not need to employ a random selection process in either the Regular or Academic Challenge programs this year.  This means that all students and families at the grade 7 level who selected Vernon Barford prior to the April 15th (4:00 pm) deadline will be accepted.  Welcome to our school and know that we look forward to working with all of our new students and families in the days ahead.
    • While we will not need to employ a random selection process for next year, our school is still full and thus we will not be accepting any new grade 8 or grade 9 students for the upcoming year (unless you are newly moved into our attendance area after April 15, 2015).
    • Complementary course selection forms are being sent to our feeder elementary schools or are available from our school office.  Mrs. Guppy and Mr. Paquette (VB assistant principals) will be coming to our feeder elementary schools to complete the online course selection process over the next two weeks. Should your child be from an out of attendance area school, please be aware that course selection forms have been mailed home and/ or delivered to your current elementary school.
    • Thank you to everyone for your continued interest and support of our school and please do not hesitate to contact our school office (780-413-2211) should you have a unique circumstance or have additional questions.
    • For any parents who currently have students in grade 7 or grade 8 (students who are returning to Vernon Barford), thank you for completing the school selection process in school zone.  Please be aware that course selection forms are being handed out this week and the online course selection process will occur on Monday April 20 and Tuesday April 21 at the school.
    • We can confirm that all grade 9 students have selected a school for next year.  The course selection process for Edmonton southwest high schools has already been completed.  Southwest area high schools will be looking at their numbers and will advise individual families as needed should a random selection process be required or have an impact on a specific application.

Principal's Message

Welcome to Vernon Barford Junior High School and the home of “Blues” family.  Like all strong families we believe that “Once a Blue, Always a Blue” which implies that it is our desire that every student would see being part of our community as a positive experience in both the short and long term. We also wish to be true to the spirit and example of our namesake (i.e., Mr. Vernon Barford) and toward this end all members of our community are encouraged to be committed to:

  • Ongoing learning (in a wide variety of areas).
  • The attitude and skill of giving one’s best (even when it is scary).
  • The collective good through a focus on “we” vs just “me”.  This implies an ongoing commitment to developing and modeling good character and citizenship traits.
  • Ongoing personal and collective growth and improvement in all areas.

The above goals are supported through a tradition of exceptional academic programming in core subjects and complementary courses as well as the inclusion of regular, English language learning, academic challenge, and literacy programming and support.  There is something for everyone in the complimentary areas at Vernon Barford with many options in Fine Arts, Career and Technology Studies, Physical Education, and International Languages. Countless opportunities for students to also get involved and try/learn new things through high quality clubs, fun days, trips, and athletic teams also exist.

Vernon Barford is a member of the Edmonton Public School Board and like all other EPSB schools is committed to student achievement and literacy, student safety, and citizenship.

Welcome to our school and please do not hesitate to check out other areas of our website or give us a call should you have additional questions or desire more information on how to become part of our family.
