Principal's Message

Welcome to Vernon Barford Junior High School and the home of “Blues” family.  Like all strong families we believe that “Once a Blue, Always a Blue” which implies that it is our desire that every student would see being part of our community as a positive experience in both the short and long term. We also wish to be true to the spirit and example of our namesake (i.e., Mr. Vernon Barford) and toward this end all members of our community are encouraged to be committed to:

  • Ongoing learning (in a wide variety of areas).
  • The attitude and skill of giving one’s best (even when it is scary).
  • The collective good through a focus on “we” vs just “me”.  This implies an ongoing commitment to developing and modeling good character and citizenship traits.
  • Ongoing personal and collective growth and improvement in all areas.

The above goals are supported through a tradition of exceptional academic programming in core subjects and complementary courses as well as the inclusion of regular, English language learning, academic challenge, and literacy programming and support.  There is something for everyone in the complimentary areas at Vernon Barford with many options in Fine Arts, Career and Technology Studies, Physical Education, and International Languages. Countless opportunities for students to also get involved and try/learn new things through high quality clubs, fun days, trips, and athletic teams also exist.

Vernon Barford is a member of the Edmonton Public School Board and like all other EPSB schools is committed to student achievement and literacy, student safety, and citizenship.

Welcome to our school and please do not hesitate to check out other areas of our website or give us a call should you have additional questions or desire more information on how to become part of our family.
