  • Welcome

Vernon Barford School is full in planned classes in Grade 7, 8 and 9 in the Regular program. We will now only accept resident students in Grade 7, 8 and 9 who have newly moved into Vernon Barford School’s attendance area and Dr. Margaret Ann Armour School's attendance area for the regular program. A resident student of Edmonton Public Schools has at least one parent or legal guardian living in Edmonton who is not Roman Catholic. Non-resident students can enrol in another Division school with space in planned classes.

If you are registering for Kindergarten or if you are new to Edmonton Public Schools, you must register online.

Welcome to Vernon Barford website and thank you for your interest in our school.  The core purposes of our school are to a) Ensure learning and b) Promote positive development of the whole child.  We offer Regular and Gifted & Talented programming at all three grade levels and our school is home to about 800 students in grades 7 to 9.  We continue to have a proud tradition of providing excellence and opportunity in academics and a wide variety of extracurricular activities.

The pre-enrolment process for the 2022-2023 school year is now complete.  If you are interested in registering your child for the 2022-2023 school year, please allow us to make you aware of some important information below:

As all grades and programs are full and closed, we are only able to accept new students if they have not been pre-enrolled with any other school for the 2022-23 school year or are newly moved into the Vernon Barford attendance area after April 14, 2022.

For more information about registration at Vernon Barford or any other EPSB school, please check the “For Parents-Registration” tab on our website.

We are looking forward to welcoming our incoming grade 7 and new to Vernon Barford students and parents for orientation on Thursday, August 25, 2022 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am in the gym.  Students will be meeting teachers and other students, learning a little more about our school, and finding their classrooms and lockers.  So as to make the transition and this process as easy as possible, only faculty, grade 7 students and parents, and new to Vernon Barford students and parents will be in the building.  Students should plan to bring a lock and some of their school supplies with them that morning, so that they have less to carry on the first full day back to school.

We are also inviting a parent of each grade 7 student or any student who is new to Vernon Barford plan to attend a “New to Vernon Barford Parent Information” session that will take place in the gym on August 25, 2022 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am.  As we know many that many parents will bring their child to the student orientation, the parent orientation will occur at the same time on the same day (after students have moved to classrooms for the morning).  This session will be hosted by members of our school administration team and will provide parents with some important information about Vernon Barford, strategies to make the transition as smooth as possible, and provide time for parents to ask questions.

We are closed for the summer from June 30, 2022 to August 23, 2022.  The school office will re-open starting Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 9:00 a.m.

Welcome to Vernon Barford Junior High School and the home of the BLUES family.  Like all strong families we believe that “Once a Blue, Always a Blue” which implies that it is our desire that every student would see being part of our community as a positive experience in both the short and long term. We also wish to be true to the spirit and example of our namesake (i.e., Mr. Vernon Barford) and toward this end all members of our community are encouraged to be committed to:

  • Ongoing learning (in a wide variety of areas).
  • The attitude and skill of giving one’s best (even when it is scary).
  • The collective good through a focus on “we” vs just “me”.  This implies an ongoing commitment to developing and modeling our BLUES character and citizenship traits (i.e. Big Hearted, Leaders, United, Engaged, Successful).
  • Ongoing personal and collective growth and improvement in all areas.

The above goals are supported through a tradition of exceptional academic programming in core subjects and complementary courses as well as the inclusion of Regular, Literacy, and Gifted and Talented programming and support.  There is something for everyone in the complimentary areas at Vernon Barford with many options in Fine Arts, Career and Technology Studies, Physical Education, and International Languages. Countless opportunities for students to also get involved and try/learn new things through high quality clubs, fun days, trips, and athletic teams also exist.

Vernon Barford is a member of the Edmonton Public School Board and like all other EPSB schools is committed to student achievement and literacy, student safety, and citizenship.

Welcome to our school and please do not hesitate to check out other areas of our website or give us a call should you have additional questions or desire more information on how to become part of our family.
